The different types of Boiler Installations can impact the boiler installations time:

  1. Straight Swap
  2. Boiler Relocation
  3. System Upgrade

Please find more details about each type of installation as well as an estimate of the time each type of installation will take:

Straight swap (same location)!

Description: A straight swap installation, also known as a like-for-like swap, involves replacing your current boiler with a new one of the same type and in the same location.

Timeline: This type of installation is typically the quickest, requiring minimal changes, and can often be completed within a single day.

Boiler relocation

Description: A boiler relocation installation involves moving your new boiler to a different location within your property. This may require adjustments to existing pipework or installation of new elements at the new location.

Timeline: Relocating the boiler can extend the installation process to up to 2 days, compared to the standard one-day installation.

*Note: The farther the new boiler is installed from its original location, the longer the installation time and potentially higher costs.

System upgrade

Description: System upgrade installations involve changing the type of boiler installed in the property. For example, transitioning from a heat-only boiler to a combi boiler constitutes a system upgrade, which is a popular choice among homeowners in the UK.

Timeline: A system upgrade can extend the installation process to up to 3 days or more, depending on the complexity of the job.

*Note: While it may seem like a longer process, upgrading to a more efficient system often offers significant benefits.

Why choosing the right boiler is important?

Selecting a suitable boiler for your home can ensure you have the heating and hot water necessary for your family or property.

Additionally, opting for a more efficient system can lead to savings on annual energy bills and help reduce your carbon footprint.

Other factors to consider that can impact installation times…

Installing Smart Thermostats: Smart thermostats are increasingly popular due to their innovative features and user-friendly interface, providing greater control over your heating.

Remote Control: These devices allow you to control your heating from anywhere using a smartphone, tablet, or other devices.

Learning Capability: Certain smart thermostats can learn your heating habits and automatically adjust settings based on your routine.

Demonstration Time: As smart thermostats become more advanced with additional features, demonstrating their functionalities during installation can add to the overall time.

System Powerflush: A system powerflush is a thorough cleaning process designed to remove sludge, debris, and rust from your central heating system.

Efficiency Improvement: This process ensures that your new system operates efficiently by flushing a chemically infused liquid through radiators and pipes at high velocity.

Duration: A powerflush can take up to 5 hours to complete, which significantly extends the installation time.

Upgrading your gas mains:

Upgrading your gas mains may be necessary when installing a new boiler, especially if you have an older system where the existing pipework may not be suitable.

If the size of your gas installation pipework doesn’t meet the requirements for your new boiler, it will need to be replaced.

This process could add a few extra hours to the installation, depending on the complexity of the job.
